Samsung display announced on May 12 that it will lead a national project in South Korea to develop special oxide TFT transistors and produce OLED panels with a display density of 1000 PPI, according to the elec.
Officials say the company's goal is to develop new oxide TFT thin film transistors that will move ten times faster than existing products. The technology is expected to be developed successfully in 2024. In addition, Samsung display is also committed to reducing the power consumption and manufacturing costs of TFTs.
It is understood that the display density of OLED screen currently used in smart phones can reach 643ppi, which is 4K screen carried by Sony Xperia pro and Xperia 1 III. If Samsung develops this technology successfully, it will make the screen of smart devices more delicate, and greatly improve the display effect of smart watches, VR head mounted displays and other products.
Samsung display and LG display have previously announced that they will provide flexible OLED panels for the iPhone 13, which will be released this fall, of which Samsung will provide 110 million OLED panels for apple.
