Samsung and LGD start making OLED screens for Apple's iPhone 13

Samsung display and LG display have begun to produce OLED panels for Apple's iPhone 13, one month ahead of last year's iPhone 12 series, according to the elec. This year, as the global COVID-19 has eased compared with the same period last year, the production task is scheduled to proceed. The next generation of iPhone is expected to be released in 9-10.

Samsung started production in mid May, one week ahead of LG, according to people familiar with the matter. When the screen assembly was completed, Samsung completed the first batch of products 10 days ahead of LG.

According to previous news, Samsung display plans to produce 80 million OLED screens for the iPhone 13, while LG will produce 30 million. In addition, the next-generation iPhone 13pro (max) is expected to be equipped with Samsung's ltpo panel and support 120Hz refresh rate. The LTPS panel produced by LG will be used for the lower iPhone 13 and 13 Mini models.

If the iPhone 12 series is added, Samsung display expects to supply about 120-130 million OLED panels for Apple's mobile phones in 2021, while LG will supply about 50 million OLED panels. Previously, it was reported that BOE, a domestic manufacturer, failed to break into Apple's iPhone supply chain, and the screen it produced was expected to be used for after-sales maintenance and replacement.
